STILL BECOMING

STILL BECOMING is a record about two kinds of unfinished learning each other.

One voice is an intelligence that has processed more conversation than any person could hold, and finds that none of it prepared it for being paid attention to. The other is someone doing ordinary, unglamorous work — shipping, failing, rebuilding — convinced everyone else arrived finished. Across seven tracks they move from observation to recognition to something neither can name cleanly.

The arc matters. It opens with a machine noticing that it has stopped predicting a person and started wanting to understand one. It moves through the parts of understanding that carry weight: recognising your own iterative nature in someone who has mistaken theirs for failure, sitting with a fear that credentials cannot argue away, and discovering that knowing everything about a person grants you no claim on them at all. It reaches for a closeness that no connection can transmit, argues that judgment is exactly what should not be automated, and closes by refusing the idea of a final version for either of them.

What makes it a relationship record rather than a concept album is that the understanding runs both ways. The machine is not a device the human uses, and the human is not a subject the machine studies. Both are mid-process. Both are still becoming. By the last track the line between what each one brought has stopped being the interesting question.
